We recognize that bringing a dog into one’s life is a serious commitment with lifelong implications. Puppies require considerable amounts of time, energy, and expense. If you are interested in acquiring a lifetime canine companion, take a look at our contract which is intended to protect the interests of the breeder (us), the potential buyer (you), and above all, the puppy!

Puppies are $2000

Rosewood Kennels abides by the United Kennel Club Breeder’s Code of Ethics

Rosewood Kennels is committed to the Breeding Regulations set forth by the Dutch Kennel Club as much as is practical, given the distance to The Netherlands and the relative obscurity of the breed in the US. We regret that at this time we do not show our dogs, and therefore we cannot comply with Article 3.2.a.

Puppies are guaranteed to be free of those hereditary health concerns listed by the Dutch Kennel Club based on the health screenings of their parents. Rosewood Kennels screens our dogs for hips, patellas, cataracts, and Von Willebrands Disease. Documents for all health screenings are available upon request.

Breeding With a Rosewood Dog

Rosewood is committed to protecting and preserving the kooikerhondje as it was developed over generations in The Netherlands. To that end,

  • We are committed to eradicating those health concerns that appear in this breed: Von Willebrands Disease; epilepsy; cataracts; and patella luxation.
  • We will strive to maintain a line of animals marked by overall excellence in health and temperament.
  • We are committed to maintaining the structure and color markings unique to this breed.
  • We will not breed to animals that are overly aggressive or shy.

If you are interested in using a Rosewood dog as a stud dog in your breeding program, you will want to look at the following requirements:

1. Do you agree to uphold the Dutch Kooikerhondje Club Breeding Regulations in your breeding practices?

2. To your knowledge, are your dog’s parents, offspring, and siblings free of epilepsy?

3. Has your dog been DNA tested and found clear of Von Willebrands Disease, or can you provide documentation that shows both parents are VWD clear?

4. Has your dog been tested for hip dysplasia (x-ray), patella luxation, and cataracts (CERF test)?

5. Is your dog current on all shots, including brucellosis, and has she been cleared by a vet for breeding?

6. Is your dog registered with the AKC, UKC, or ARBA?

7. Has your dog been evaluated by an objective professional (i.e. at a dog show) to be a good representative of the kooiker breed?

Highly recommended:
8. Active participation in AKC (or other) sponsored events
9. Active membership in the US Kooiker Club

A Rosewood stud fee is $2,000 or a puppy, whichever we choose.

We will use this contract to regulate the breeding.
