Information for Reserving your Puppy

This page describes the steps to getting a Kooikerhondje puppy from Rosewood Kennels.

  1. Puppy Questionnaire. If you’re interested in getting a puppy from us, please download our Puppy Questionnaire. Enjoy filling it out and then e-mail or mail it back to  Joyce Maxwell.
  2. Waiting List. Once we receive your questionnaire, you will be on our waiting list. We’ll let you know and will ask you for a deposit.
  3. Deposit. To secure your spot on our waiting list, we’ll ask you to send a $500 deposit that is fully refundable until the date of birth of the puppies. (After the puppies’ birth, the deposit is refundable at the discretion of Rosewood.)
  4. Matching each puppy with a family/home. Our goal is to make a good match between puppies and families/homes. We match puppies with homes based on your answers in the Puppy Questionnaire, a temperament test, and a physical structure evaluation (Volhard Puppy Temperament Test). Our greatest desire is to match each puppy with a home/family that will be the best fit for that puppy.
  5. Picking up your puppy. Puppies are ready to go home at about eight weeks. We ask you to pick up your puppy in person. We look forward to meeting you! And if you live close by, you are welcome to visit the puppies while they grow. Every prospective puppy owner has the right to NOT take a puppy, even if you are on the waiting list and have given a deposit. Even when you arrive to pick up your puppy, if you feel it is not right for you at the time, you always have the option to decline.
  6. Contract and payment. When you arrive to pick up your puppy, you will be asked to read and sign our Puppy Contract and to pay the balance owed. You are welcome to read through our sample Puppy Contract ahead of time, as it outlines the responsibilities of Rosewood as well as your responsibilities. Please contact Rosewood if you have questions about the contract.
  7. Neutering. All puppies are sold with a limited AKC registration, which will be expanded to full registration when we receive proof that your dog has been neutered. We reserve the right to be involved in the decision to keep a Rosewood dog intact  for breeding or showing purposes.
  8. Staying in touch. We’d like to stay in touch after your puppy goes home with you. Please let us know what activities you and your dog are involved in, and any awards or achievements you have earned together. In the unlikely event that your dog becomes ill, please let us know. We’d also like to update your puppy’s page on our website with photos and news you send in. And remember, if for any reason you can no longer keep your puppy, bring her back and we will work to find another home where she can be secure and happy.
